E-Cigarette Plastic Shell Common Materials
January 23, 2024
Commonly used materials for e-cigarette casing include ABS plastic, PC polycarbonate and PCTG.ABS plastic is resistant to chemical corrosion, heat, high elasticity and toughness, good processing performance, relatively low cost, suitable for making e-cigarette casing.PC plastic is highly transparent, impact resistant, heat resistant, suitable for transparent or semi-transparent casing.PCTG material is widely used in many parts of electronic cigarettes because of its safety, transparency, toughness, and high-temperature resistant performance. performance, it is widely used in a number of components of electronic cigarettes.
1、ABS
ABS plastic is acrylonitrile (A), butadiene (B), styrene (S) three monomers of the terpolymer, the relative content of the three monomers can be arbitrarily changed to make a variety of resins.
ABS plastic has both the common properties of the three components, A so that it is chemically resistant, heat-resistant, and have a certain surface hardness, B so that it has a high degree of elasticity and toughness, S so that it has a thermoplastic processing and moulding characteristics and improve the electrical properties.
ABS plastic is widely used for e-cigarette casing because of its good mechanical properties, processing properties and relatively low cost. It has good impact resistance, robustness and high thermal stability.
2、PC
Polycarbonate is a strong thermoplastic resin that gets its name from its internal -O-C(=O)-O- group. Can be synthesised from bisphenol A and carbonyl chloride (COCl2). The more commonly used method is now the melt ester exchange method (bisphenol A and diphenyl carbonate are synthesised by ester exchange and polycondensation reactions).
PC plastic has very high transparency and impact resistance, but also has good heat resistance, suitable for e-cigarette products that require transparent or semi-transparent shell.
3、PCTG
PETG, full name is called cyclohexane dimethanol modified copolyester, is a part of PET synthesis process of ethylene glycol is replaced by other glycols (copolymer monomer) obtained by the copolymer product.
According to the different proportions of CHDM copolymer, there are further divisions, some data show that the CHDM content of more than 50% of the copolyester is called PCTG, CHDM content of less than 50% of the copolyester is called PETG.
PCTG materials are used in a large number of parts such as oil storage tanks, atomisation tanks, bases, nozzles, caps, etc. due to their excellent properties such as safety, high transparency, good toughness and high temperature resistance.
